Jimmy Stewart and Johnny Carson shed tears over a dog named Beau. Lovely, sad and hopeful.
Jimmy Stewart reads a poem about his dog Beau in 1981.

Gun Adoption of the Day: A gun shop in Fresno attempts the animal shelter approach to selling weapons by comparing them to mistreated animals in need of a good home.
[22words.]
I doubt I’ll ever understand Americans and their love affair with guns. I understand the history behind it, but that doesn’t make it right in the 21st Century. This commercial is despicable.

Christmas Bacon Cherries
Glace Cherries / Streaky Bacon
HEAT oven to 200C
CUT small strips of streaky bacon
WRAP small strips around individual cherries
PLACE on a baking tray
THROW in oven for around 15 minutes
REMOVE when bacon is cooked
SHOUT holy shit these are fucking amazing
GO COOK YOURSELF
I think bacon may well be my all-time favourite food, which makes me a total hypocrite given how I feel about factory farming. And oh, I happen to live 5 minutes from the last urban abattoir in North America (Toronto). It’s downtown as in a 5-minute drive from the CN Tower. Despite the rancid smell at times, and the constant stream of 18-wheelers transporting the pigs to the slaughter-house in my hood, I still love bacon. Hypocrite? Fully. Bacon? Yum.
And for a more savory version of this recipe, substitute water chestnuts for the cherries.

Some fishing stories are a little hard to believe, But this guy has pictures to prove his story…
Tom Satre told the Sitka Gazette that he was out with a charter group on his 62-foot fishing vessel when four juvenile black-tailed deer swam directly toward his boat.
“Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at us. We could tell right away that the young bucks were distressed.
I opened up my back gate and we helped the typically skittish and absolutely wild animals onto the boat. In all my years fishing, I’ve never seen anything quite like it!
“Once on-board, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering. We headed for Taku Harbour. Once we reached the dock, the first
buck that we had been pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back as if to say ‘thank you’ and disappeared into the forest.”
After a bit of prodding and assistance, two more followed, but the smallest deer needed a little more help (that’s him in the wheelbarrow).
My daughter, Anna, and son, Tim, helped the last buck to its feet. We didn’t know how long they had been in the icy waters or if there had been others who did not survive. My daughter later told me that the experience was something that she would never forget, and I suspect the deer felt the same way as well!”

End Corporate Rule. Legalize Democracy.
LA City Council’s move to Amend the Constitution = Unanimous Affirmative Vote
Corporations are NOT human beings.
Money is not free speech.
Corporations do pretend to be people for the same reasons that the wolf dresses up like a sheep.
Amend the Constitution so that only human beings, not corporations, are endowed with Constitutional rights.
Corporations do not breathe. Corporations do not have children.
Enough now. Support GBLT youth. They need it. If in Toronto, support Youth Line.
Because it’s easier to read one book…
Creationism, cause it’s easier to read one book than many.

Love this video of Bailey the dog traveling through heaps of snow. The editing is superb. Hard to do with a dog buried and disappearing in snow!
I can’t watch this ‘cause I’m at work but I’m just gonna go ahead and assume that it’s the best.

So amazing to see happy people, and a whole lot of ‘em at once. Thanks for sharing!

Why I Love Toronto Reason #96
The Little Free Library
Now I know how much you all love posts about libraries, because Reason #11 the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library has become my number one reblogged/ liked post! Also today the Toronto Public Library is in the news as the city debates the new budget, where proposed earlier closures and elimination of Sunday hours could be the way to trim the cities budget.
With this possible disruption in library services Beaches resident Bill Wrigley decided to open up a little free library, which is becoming a major craze around North America. This little free library is the first in Toronto and is located on Lee Ave. This craze started in Madison Wisconsin a few years ago and the point of the program is to share books with your community. The libraries are usually housed in birdhouse like buildings and are found in front of one’s house on the edge of the sidewalk and the owner property. The rule is if you take a book, then you leave a book!
The Toronto little free library is open 24 hours a day seven days a week so if your library is one that may face reduced hours because of budget cutbacks and you really need to get your “read on” you know to head to Lee Ave. The library has titles such as The Collected Works of Grey Owl, The Dangerous Book for Boys and Peter and The Wolf donated from Mr. Wrigley’s own collection
The structure of Wrigley’s library was inspired by the Beaches Public Library. His goal is to get people lost in literature. I love this concept, because like a library it is bringing the community together, it strengthens them and that is the one thing I love about Toronto. Whether you live in the Junction, Parkdale or the Annex there is always a sort of community felt when you enter those neighbourhoods. But I’ll leave that for another post.
This library is a very recent thing opening Saturday. So Mr. Wrigley I must say it is an honour to put you and your little heartwarming free library on this list because you have definitely given me a new reason to love my city.
That is Why I Love Toronto.
This is about the most heart-warming story I’ve heard coming out of Toronto in a long time. Can’t wait to take and give a book!

I suppose if indeed anxiety is good for the average American, than tons of Americans are feeling great after the anxiety-inducing mayhem of Black Friday.
One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others of the Day: Hint: It’s the one with the cover story about how it’s completely okay, if not beneficial, to feel unease about future uncertainties, as opposed to, say, riot in the streets until sh*t gets done.
Sadly, this is a fairly common occurrence.
